Ever wonder why sex scandals are suddenly erupting all over? There’s former MP Sir Cyril Smith; General Petraeus, Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash; the BBC’s Jimmy Saville; the Boy Scouts and Coach Sandusky. Australia has sex scandals in its Parliament, military, Jewish community and, earlier this year, a yoga school. Even China is reeling from sex-tape scandals.

It’s enough to put soap operas out of business—oh wait—there’s already a 2012 TV series, “Scandal.” Google Trends worldwide search interest in “scandal” has increased 240% since 2004.  And if it’s not sex scandals or phone-hacking scandals or the just-breaking Oxford-English-Dictionary-word-deletion scandal, it’s sports scandals.
