After two years of probes, the University of North Carolina has asked a high-profile investigator to look into alleged bogus classes that benefited the school’s athletes, according to a February 21 article in the Charlotte News-Observer. CNN reported earlier this year that in a sample of UNC football and basketball players, 8% were reading below a third-grade level. Meanwhile, in Atlanta, a former principal and test coordinator have pleaded guilty to their roles in the city’s public schools cheating scandal.
