Russia is tightening its grip on the Internet and the airwaves, according to an October 13 article in The Week. Russian officials have blocked more than 600 websites that they view as “extremist.” They now require bloggers with more than 3,000 daily readers to meet the same requirements as large media. And, they are limiting foreign ownership of Russian media outlets to 20 percent. The Russian Trading System Cash Index is down 49% since April 2011.
