In 2012, Russia’s Federal Migration Service said the country needed immigrants to prevent workforce shortages. The following year, Russian protesters took to the streets of Moscow chanting “Russia for Russians” and “White Power.” Last year, 19 people were killed and 103 were injured as a result of ethnic violence in Russia. And, a 2014 survey by a Russian think tank showed 76% of Russians believe immigration should be restricted.
