In 2007, Russian stocks were soaring, and Russian women were singing pop songs that praised the manly virtues of their President, Vladimir Putin. On Russia’s presidential website you could see a photo of Putin himself posing bare-chested. But, also in 2007, Alan Hall offered a socionomic perspective: He warned that the world would soon see a darker side of Mad Vlad.

In the years since 2007, the Russian Trading System Index has plummeted. Meanwhile, Putin has overseen egregious human rights violations, ramped up nuclear weapon developments, and gotten away with land grabs in neighboring countries.
