Iran-Saudi - CopyTensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran erupted this week. The fallout began when Saudi Arabia executed a Shiite cleric. Iranians then stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran. Diplomatic ties were cut, trade stymied and pilgrimages to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina prohibited.

Stoking the fire, Iran accused Saudi Arabia of striking its embassy in Yemen. Neighboring countries are starting to “downgrade” diplomatic relations with Iran.

The August 2015 Socionomist said, “The rise in executions reflects the country’s negative mood trend.”
