Washington, D.C.’s four-term mayor was embronzed in front of City Hall in early March. The eight-foot statue of Marion Barry is said to symbolize his civic achievements as a councilman and civil rights activist. But his tenure was cursed with scandals that failed to curb his comeback into politics. Current Mayor Muriel Bowser said Barry “taught us that as long as you’re waking up on this Earth, there can be a comeback.”

Despite his shortcomings, Barry succeeded where many politicians failed.
