The Miss Universe Organization will welcome their first transgender contender, Angela Ponce of Spain, in the 2018 pageant. The organization lifted the transgender ban in 2013, following a legal challenge by transgender trailblazer Jenna Talackova of Canada who was disqualified from the contest. Ponce said this about the historical occasion: “I just have a different story, a woman who came to life differently but I’m a woman.”
