Remember the Gravy Train dog food advertisements from the 1950s or the lavish Fancy Feast cat food from the 1980s? Today, in-store sales for fresh pet food are soaring, up 70% from 2015 to 2018. Pet food companies are matching that renewed enthusiasm as owners opt for top-shelf, pre-portioned meals of meat and vegetables, products resembling human food, for their furry family members.

In the October 1996 Elliott Wave Theorist, Robert Prechter wrote, “animals are among the biggest beneficiaries of the current peak in inclusionistic social sentiment.” Positive mood is the engine of America’s inclusionary trend.
