September 1, 2020

With the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers pushing to end the remainder of the 2019-20 NBA season, the league’s playoffs appeared to be in jeopardy. Games for August 26-27 were canceled after teams opted not to participate. But in an August 27 meeting, NBA players agreed to resume the season, putting an end to fears of a sudden cancellation.

The players’ decision comes with the S&P 500 trending in record-high territory, reflecting a positive-mood trend that provides an ideal environment for basketball. In a 1996 special report, EWI’s Peter Kendall said basketball’s dependence on speed, height and jumping ability makes it the “ultimate bull market game.”
